Job vacancy: Development Engineer

Company: Sensor Coating Systems Ltd. (SCS) is a growing technology company which recently moved from Imperial College London to larger premises at Londoneast-UK, a new technology park in London at Dagenham East. SCS develops sensor technology based on smart luminescence materials that measures historic peak temperatures for applications in demanding environments. The patented and award winning temperature detection technology enables the optimised operation of machinery, better equipment life-time predictions, lower fuel costs and lower CO2 emissions and a better understanding of material integrity in high temperature environments. Main industrial sectors for application are the power generation industry, aero engines, automotive and machinery operating in extreme environments. The current team provides a strong blend of commercial and technical, world leading expertise.

The technical team received the British Engineering Excellence Award 2013 and several other technical awards from prestigious international institutions such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and most recently won a prestigious prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry at their Enabling Technologies 2017 competition.

SCS is commercialising a variety of technologies serving some of the most reputed companies worldwide in the aerospace, power generation and automotive sectors.

Development Engineer

Requirements & skills:

The candidate will have an excellent higher education degree in materials engineering, mechanical engineering or relevant disciplines and might have ideally a few years of industrial experience or a PhD.

Knowledge of laser diagnostics techniques and optics.

Excellent management skills, writing and reporting skills and ability to communicate complex technical ideas and results. Experience in data analysis.

IT skills: MS Office, 3D design (e.g. Solid Edge) and programming languages (e.g. MatLab, Python, LabView)

Valid working permit

The successful candidate will work in a stimulating and demanding technical interdisciplinary environment. Several years of professional experience are desired, but excellent university graduates are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities: He/she must be able to solve technical challenges independently and in a team, demonstrate creative thinking and deliver results to deadlines. The prospective candidate should be enthusiastic about the technology and demonstrate good commercial awareness. His/her major activity is the implementation of the technology in collaboration with industrial customers and the improvement of the technology based on the specific feedback requirements and in collaboration with the rest of the team (materials and instrumentation development). The position will involve interacting with international suppliers and customers and assisting the company in patent protection. The role involves international travel to deliver measurement campaigns at customer sites.

The company expects the candidate to be able to lead development projects including government funded grants. Strong communication skills are required to form and maintain good customer relationships and to represent the company at conferences and exhibitions. The job requires a practical approach with a good mix of laboratory based work and management.

Also desired:

Knowledge of phosphorescence, phosphor materials and/or thermographic phosphors

Knowledge of gas turbines, combustion engines, etc.

Languages: English (required)
